Initially we will have a short phone call to make sure that counselling is the right thing for you at this time. I will ask what your hopes for counselling are and what you would like to get out of it. Together we will decide if we feel we can work together.
For your first face-to-face counselling session we will talk more about what you can expect, and I will answer any questions you may have. I will give you my contract to read and sign and collect some data from you including details of your GP and any medication that you may be prescribed. Please see my privacy document for relevant GDPR information.
After this we will think more about what your hopes and goals are. We will refer back to these in future sessions in order to review the effectiveness of the counselling and whether your goals have changed. I might ask about your personal history, your family and current situation wondering how your issue has affected you.
Counselling works if there is a good therapeutic relationship, that means that you feel you can trust me and that we can work together. If you don’t feel that is the case, then you do not have to continue and at any point you can decide to stop your sessions but I do ask that you give 48hours notice.
